How to make money using just your email

Using email to make money from home is both one of the easiest ways to make money and also one of the hardest. It’s easy once you understand it, how it works, how every little detail can make a huge difference and it’s hard to get those little things exactly right. However, the good news is email marketing can be one of the most profitable forms of marketing and it is without a doubt the most cost effective. Once you learn the marketing strategies that are employed by the best marketers you’ll understand how effective email marketing can be. We’ll cover the main points here.

First, let me explain a few terms to you. Open rate is the percentage of emails that actually get opened by people and then ideally read by them. If they never get opened, your not any further ahead right out of the gates. Secondly, is click through rate, that’s the percentage of people that actually click on a link that you have in your email which will most probably send them to your site or to one of your landing pages. These are the two main metrics used to determine the effectiveness of your campaign. To begin with open rate is typically determined by two factors, your content in the subject line and whether your email actually gets delivered to the recipient’s inbox and not their spam folder.

Your content in the subject line is the most important part of your email to get right, if nobody even opens your email, obviously nobody will ever buy from you. So, before you even work on the body of your email make sure you create an attention grabbing email that is relevant to what is actually in your email. I’m sure you’ve seen thousands of emails come through your inbox, which were the ones that grabbed your attention? What made them stand out that made you want to find out more? Was there a sense of urgency? An offer that was of real interest to you? The promise of a solution to a problem that you have? This is where you need to think of who exactly is your market, what drives them, what interests them and what can you offer that will be urgent and wanted by them. Then all you have to do is put it into a five to ten word statement, you’re right, it’s not as easy as it sounds and that’s why you’re going to test different headlines over and over until you find that winning headline and then you’re going to start again. The second reason why people don’t open it is because it got labelled as spam and that’s why you have a good email provider which we’ll talk about later.

The next thing you’ll want to do is have the greeting which will include the person’s name. This was why when you collected their email you asked for their name. The email provider you choose will automatically put the person’s name in for you from your mailing list that you’ve uploaded. Once you’ve got your greeting you’ll want to dive right into the body of your email. This is where you create you tone and style. Are you serious and business like, casual and friendly, informative? Whichever tone you choose make sure to carry them throughout all your emails. Always keep in mind the reason you’re writing the email. Is it to create an action, build confidence in your reader, provide information? Ultimately you’re going to want them to take an action which usually involves clicking on a live link that will send them to either your landing page or your website. You can have two or three calls to action in an email but anymore and you risk being seen as too pushy, any less and you can lose them in an email without ever having them take the form of action you want.

When you create a live link make sure they know where it is by putting it in bold and usually in red or orange which are action colors. Put the words “find out moreclick here” “download now” “join now.” People know these are calls to action. If you’ve written great copy, they’ll respond. So, what makes great copy? It creates excitement, teases the reader without giving too much away, makes them want to find out more and creates urgency. All this in as few lines as possible. Your email should be succinct and to the point, without long words, without boring prose and without sentences that don’t make a point or cause an action. In other words, keep it short and to the point.

Now, you understand the basic dynamics of a great and profitable email but if you’re going to make money from this you’re going to need to automate it and add all the bells and whistles to it so that you look professional and you get opens and clicks; to do this you need a great email server. The reason for this is their emails will get through to the inboxes at a far higher rate than your’s would because the spam compliance watchdogs know them, know their ip address and also know that they don’t allow spam. This is the biggest reason you’ll need an email service but once you understand that, an even more important element they have is the services and additional items that make it easy to create a fantastic money making campaign.

The great thing too is many of them are free until you’ve got a few thousand emails on your list, so while you’re still building and learning how to make money from home they won’t be costing you anything. The two I use are GetResponse and Aweber. Both have great auto-responders that are easy to setup, very high deliverability rates, RSS compatibility to turn your blogs into emails,email newsletter capability, sophisticated tracking software and solid customer service. They also have a wide range of plugins for third party providers such as Paypal and Facebook. Both are great and have all the bells and whistles you’ll need so it will simply come down to your personal preference.

Email marketing is your lifeblood of your business and your ability to make money from home or anywhere in the world while you’re having fun so choose a solid, reputable provider and you’ll have far fewer stresses.
